本圖1895年展出時附有丁尼生的The Palace of Art中的詩句

'In a clear walled city on the sea.
Near gilded organ pipes - slept St. Cecily'.

沃特豪斯嘗試用本圖傳達某種中世紀的感覺，而他也的確做到了。富有裝飾性的畫面，還有一點宗教畫的味道。幾乎沒有現實主義和日常生活的痕跡。

赫庫勒斯乘船到達塞歐斯島，赫庫勒斯的伙伴海拉斯上岸尋找水源，海拉斯找到了泉水，但水仙女們愛上年輕英俊的海拉斯，把他帶入她們的世界。
碧色的湖面，美麗的水仙女，看似零亂實則精心安排的植物，使詩意在畫面上緩緩流動。

宙斯創造潘多拉來摧毀人類以報復普羅米修斯，赫菲斯托斯創造潘多拉的身體，雅典娜給與潘多拉衣飾，赫爾墨斯傳授潘多拉語言，阿弗洛狄忒賦予潘多拉魅力。然后，諸神皆給潘多拉一件施禍于人的禮物。
宙斯把潘多拉送給普羅米修斯的弟弟厄庇墨透斯，潘多拉打開魔盒，疾病，災禍，嫉妒，貪婪，……來到了人間，而潘多拉把希望這件唯一美好的禮物關在盒子里。

1899年布爾戰爭在南非爆發，英國藝術家發起為英軍募捐的活動，本圖即為此而作。
畫中的少女有如大理石雕塑般的美麗，她正飲酒為遠征的士兵祝福，同時向遠去的帆船投去同情的目光。
畫面具有意大利風格和幾何學特征，圓鏡的弧形被拱門，頌經臺及地球儀一次次的重復著。

Nymphs finding the Head of Orpheus 發現俄爾普斯的頭

俄耳普斯善彈豎琴，歌聲優美，他因得罪了酒神而被肢解，林澤仙女發現他的頭和豎琴。
極暗的背景中凸現出的白皙的林澤仙女顯得格外動人，林澤仙女的吃驚，憐憫，憂郁的表情被刻畫的極其生動。

The Awakening of Adonis 喚醒阿多尼斯

阿多尼斯年輕俊美，是阿弗洛狄忒的戀人，他是忒伊亞和他的女兒亂倫的產物。
阿多尼斯后來死去，阿弗洛狄忒請求宙斯允許阿多尼斯半年時間呆在冥府，另半年時間與她在一起。
阿多尼斯的死亡與復蘇代表植物在冬天枯萎衰落，而在春天恢復生機。
